Special Feature:   Drop Down List Box Shortcuts

When filling out forms on the internet, you will occasionally be inconvenienced by drop down lists with many choices.  For example, when having to select your country, you click on the country drop down list box to display a list of choices.  If every country in the world is listed, it takes a long time to scroll down to the U.S.

Here is a quicker way to make your selection.  Lets say you have to input your state and you live in New York.  Click in the state box and then type the letter n.  You will see the first selection that starts with n. Press it again and you go to the next selection.  Keep pressing the n until you get to New York.

Once you see your selection in the box, click elsewhere to continue filling out your form.

Today's Topic:   Downloading Files from the Internet

When you download a file, you copy a file from a remote computer (on the Internet) to your own computer.  As you browse the internet, you may come across files that you would like to download; for example, programs, pictures or video.

When programs are made available for downloading, you will usually see a button or link to click to begin the download.  When you click it, you will usually see the File Download Security Warning dialog box.  Click Save and then maneuver to the folder in which you would like to save the downloaded file.  The speed of the download will depend on your Internet connection and the size of the file; some downloads can take a long time to complete.

To open the file or run the program, open the folder where you saved it.  First, scan it with your Antivirus program.  To do so, right click on the file and, in the resulting menu, left click Scan with Antivirus.  Once the scan is complete, double click the file to open it.

You can also copy text, pictures, and videos from the Internet.  Here are the steps:

Copying text.  Point the mouse at the first letter of the block of text you would like to copy.  Hold down the left mouse button and drag to the end of the block.  Click Edit on the menu and then Copy.  Open your word processing program.  Click at the point where you would like this copied text to appear.  Click Edit on the menu and then Paste.  You will now see the copied text.

Copying a picture.  Right-click the picture.  From the resulting menu, left click Save Picture As.  Maneuver to the folder you would like to save the picture in and then click the Save button.  To view the picture, open the folder where you saved it.  First, scan it with your Antivirus program (see steps above).  Double click the picture to open it.

Copying a video: Right-click the video image. From the resulting menu, left click Save Target As. Maneuver to the folder you would like to save the video in and then click the Save button.  To view the picture, open the folder where you saved it.  First, scan it with your Antivirus program (see steps above).  Double click the picture to open it.
