Special Feature:   View Attachments Without Downloading

Question:  Is it possible to view email attachments without having to download them?

Answer:
It depends on your email program.

In Outlook Express you can. Open the email and double click the filename of the attached file.  If your computer has a program that can work with that type of file, it will open in that program.

In Yahoo Mail, there is a Files section at the bottom of the email. Click View next to the attachment and it will open either in your web browser or, if your computer has a program that can work with that type of file, it will open in that program.

Hotmail displays pictures right in the email, but other types of files, documents for example, must be downloaded.

According to AOL Tech Support, in America Online, you cannot view files without downloading them.

Today's Topic:   Run or Save

Question:  When I download a program from the Internet, there are two choices:  Run or Save.  What's the difference?

Answer:
Either of these choices will open Setup and install the program on your computer. The difference is in what happens to the setup file.

If you choose Save, you can put the setup file on a disk. If you ever need to reinstall the program, the file will be available to you without having to download it again.

If you choose Run, setup will start once the setup file is downloaded to the temporary internet file. When the temporary internet files are emptied, this setup download will be deleted.

There are several advantages to choosing Save.  The setup file will be there if you ever need it again – to do a reinstall or to install to another computer.  You will also be able to check the file for any viruses it could potentially contain.

Also, if you download a lot of programs and use the Run option, your temporary internet files will start to fill up; make sure you periodically empty them.

Question:   Apply or OK

When I make a change in a window, should I click the Apply button or OK?

Answer:
Clicking OK will apply the changes that you made; you do not need to click Apply first.

Use the Apply button when you are making changes to something and you want to check the result without exiting out of the window.  If you don’t like the changes you made, the window is still open; change them again.
