******************************************************************** *** Using Links
A Link is a reference to a website. In this newsletter you will see links to many worthwhile, informative and fun websites. Here are the instructions on how to use links:
A link will be used one of two ways, depending on your email program.
If you see the link in blue, underlined text, all you have to do is click on it and a window with the Website in it will automatically appear on your screen.
If you see the link in plain text, you can copy and paste it into the address bar on your browser. Highlight the link with your mouse, click Edit up on the menu bar, and then click Copy from the menu that you just opened up. Open your browser (click the Start Button, point to Programs, click on Internet Explorer); click on the address bar. Click Edit up on the menu bar, and then click Paste from the menu that you just opened up. Press the Enter key on the keyboard and this will take you to the Website.

Special Feature: Print a Picture
Question: Could you please tell me if I can print just the picture on the page that is there instead of the whole page? Thank you.
Answer: Yes, you can. First you have to select the picture. This will be done one of two ways, depending on where the picture is.
If the picture is in your word processing program, select the picture by clicking on it with the mouse. When you select the picture it will either be shaded (just like selecting a text) or you'll see little squares appear on each corner and halfway down the side and top edges of the picture.
Click Edit on the menu, then Copy. This will copy your selection to the clipboard.
Open a new document in Word. Click Edit on the menu, then Paste. This will paste your selection from the clipboard.
Print the document.
If the picture that you would like to print is on a website, right click on the picture, then left click on Copy from the menu that comes up. This will copy your selection to the clipboard.
Open a new document in Word. Click Edit on the menu, then Paste. This will paste your selection from the clipboard.
Print the document.

Tips and Tricks: Adding Page Numbers
If you are creating documents that are more than a page or two in length, you will probably want to include page numbers.
Most word processing programs automatically number pages in your document, and you can usually control the type of page number, the starting number, and the placement of the page number. In Microsoft Word, to add page numbers to your document, follow these steps:
Choose the Page Numbers command from the Insert menu. You will see the Page Numbers dialog box.
Using the Position drop-down list, specify where you want the page numbers to appear. For instance, you can choose Bottom of Page to cause the page number to appear at the bottom each page.
Using the Alignment drop-down list, specify how you want the page numbers to appear in relation to your page (left, right, center, inside or outside).
Click on OK.

Tips and Tricks: Deleting Lots of E-Mail
More and more junk email goes out every day. There might not be a lot you can do to stop it from coming in, but here are two quick ways to get rid of the spam that you already have:
If you hold down the Ctrl key and click on multiple e-mails with your mouse, you can highlight as many e-mails as you want for deletion. Click the first email you want to delete, hold down the ctrl key, and then click on each additional email. You will see that each one remains selected. Give the delete command and they’ll all be gone at once.
Or, if you want to delete several emails in a row, you can hold down the Shift key and highlight all of the e-mails between two selections. Click the first email you want to delete, press and hold the shift key, and then click on the last email. Give the delete command and all the selected emails will be deleted.
Note: in some email programs, deleted emails go into a deleted folder. To permanently remove these items, access the deleted folder and empty it, following the commands in your program.

2. On the File menu, click Import and Export.
3. In the Import/Export Wizard, click Next.
4. Click Export Favorites, and then click Next.
5. Click Favorites, and then click Next.
6. Click Export to a File or Address, type c:\bookmark.htm in the Export to a File or Address box, and then click Next.
7. Click Finish, and then click OK.
8. Quit Internet Explorer.
9. Double-click My Computer, double-click drive C, and then double-click the Bookmark.htm file.

Progressive Learning Series: Microsoft Word - Inserting Pictures
Question: I have pictures on my computer that I’d like to put into a letter that I’m writing. I use Microsoft Word, can you help me?
Answer: You can insert a picture, such as a scanned photograph or a digital camera file, into your word processing document. To do so, click where you want the picture to appear in your document and then click Insert on the menu bar, point to Picture and click From File. You will have to know which folder your picture is stored in and maneuver to that folder. Click on the file name of the picture, then click the Open or Insert button (depending on your version of Word).
Once the picture is inserted in your document, you can change its size. Click on the picture to select it; you will see little squares displayed on each corner. These are called sizing handles; click one of the corner handles and drag toward the center of the picture to make the picture smaller, drag outward to make it larger.
