Special Feature:   Window Open States

Question:  I would like my programs to open into a maximized window.  Some open already maximized, some only fill part of the screen and I have to maximize them myself.  Can I set them all to open maximized?

Answer:
Yes, you should be able to change the settings on most programs to open in maximized state, although sometimes you may run into a program that will not cooperate.

Here is how to change the settings:

Right click on the Program’s shortcut.  You can use the icon, if the program is on your desktop, or find it in the Start menu.  From the resulting menu, left click on Properties.

In the Properties dialog box that you now see, click the Shortcut tab.  Look for the Run drop-down list box.  Click the down arrow on the right side of the box; click Maximized.

Click the OK button.  The program should now open in a maximized window.

Today's Topic:   Rename a File

Question:  Is it possible to change the name of a file?  If it is, can you tell me how?  Thank you.

Answer:
There are quite a few different ways to rename a file.  Here are several:

Open the folder that the file is in.

Click the filename, wait a moment and click it again.  You will see a square appear around the filename.  Type the new name; this will replace the old name. Press the Enter key when you are done.

OR

Right click the filename.  From the resulting menu, left click Rename. You will see a square appear around the filename.  Type the new name; this will replace the old name. Press the Enter key when you are done.

OR

Hold down the Alt key and double-click the file.  This will open the Properties window for the file.  The current name will appear in a box at the top of the page under the General tab.  Erase the old name and type in the new name.  Click OK when you are done.

Question:   Spyware

I purchased an antispyware program for my computer, installed it and now several programs that I downloaded no longer work.  Why is this happening?

Answer:
Congratulations!  Your new antispyware program found programs that have spyware attached to them.

Much spyware invades your computer when you download and install a program that the spyware is part of.  That program is called a host program.

For example, you may download a toolbar for your browser that claims to make searching the Internet quicker and easier.  The toolbar may just be a way for the originator to get their spyware on your computer. If your antispyware program finds and removes the spyware, the host program, in our example, the toolbar, will no longer work, since its whole purpose is to send you advertisements through the spyware.

In some cases, a program may be important enough to you that you are willing to live with the spyware.  If that is the case, you can leave that spyware on your computer; don’t remove it when your antispyware program finds it.
